Golden bronze upsweeping sculpture as a visual metaphor for human optimism.
sculpture

"The fine craftsmanship in Optimism, by Joyce Audy Zarins, is evident in the smooth, graceful bronze bird-like form, offering the viewer a flight of fancy, and an uplifting experience."
-- Judge’s statement by Jack Becker, Sixth Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition catalogue, Winterhaven, FL (More.)

Realistic, actual size cast of a stack of Ritz crackers titled Wheat the American Staple.
small works

"When "Micro-Monumental" works -- and it's often enough to make a visit worthwhile -- it's when the art's size is intrinsic to its subject, material or both. It's when the dimensions feel necessary, rather than a gimmick by artists who normally work on a grander scale. Examples include …. Joyce Audy Zarins's "Wheat, the American Staple," in which a painted-plaster tower of trompe l'oeil crackers simultaneously mock and pay homage to ideas of national pride."
Thinking Small Has Diminishing Returns, Michael O’Sullivan, The Washington Post, Friday, May 5, 2006, page WE41. (More.)

Aerial view of thirty sea kayakers making a spiral on a bay and a large stone spiral on land to reflect the way global ocean currents flow.
environmental

The interdisciplinary Global Forces Spiral bonded science with art. Two opposing spirals separated by a line suggested the worldwide ocean current gyres north and south of the Equator. (More.)

A wind kinetic steel scultpure that seems abstract, but is the footprint of a maple tree.
evidences

"The steel piece with its fractal outline and inner fractal rings is based on the actual outline of a large tree, but it's set on its side. So it stands upright in an unusual way, and it provides a unique view, a different point of view, an impetus for looking at things newly and freshly."
- Merrill Kaitz."Magic at the Millyard," Amesbury News, September 27, 2002

Charcoal drawn self portrait showing the mirror and the chair it is propped on, therefore making the space conceptual.
depictions

Conceptual space is an interesting starting-off point. If I draw my reflection and include the mirror and the stool it is propped against is the image still two dimensional? (more)

The Earth flag, designed by Joyce Audy Zarins. It is blue above and below to represent sky and water, with green to suggest land, separate by white lines. An egg shape represents organic life, including humans.

Art has the potential power to positively affect people's behavior and understanding of the world  in times of political or cultural duress. (more.)
