etudes
Two pages of a sketchbook showing ten drawings of sculpture ideas.

Warm-up sketches help inspire sculpture. Once transferred and given shadows these become more dimensional as Etudes, studies for what might or might not be built.

Twelve sheets of Etudes were part of the Boston Drawing Project, first at Bernard Toale Gallery, then Joseph Carroll Gallery, 2007-2009, in Boston.

aerial evidences
GPS coordinates are recorded for each tree or rock footprint when the pattern is made, identifying the location of the entity. Further evidence is given by making a gouache version of the entity's site, based on aerial views. A dot in each image indicates the location where the pattern was made.
Full color aerial view of Vogar Iceland with ocean on the left and tiny houses and streets on the right. A dot indicates exactly where Eric's Birch Driplines were traced.
Aerial view painting of streets, buildings, and a park in Winterhaven, Florida. A dot indicates where the Live Oak tree pattern was made.
Aerial view showing green landscape with a snaking river, a road, and hiking paths in Denali National Park, Alaska. A dot shows the site of the white spruce tree the pattern was made from.
Aerial image of a desert in Utah showing a dry wash and three cottonwoods near a slot canyon. A dot indicates the cottonwood tree that the pattern was made from.
